Health System Profile of Monserrat

MontserratThe Ministry of Health of Montserrat is the only provider of health services in the public sector. It is in charge of the administration of the sector, including regulation and public health functions performance. The central government is in charge of the supervision and control of public financing. There is no public mechanism to regulate the different modalities of health insurance in the event that there exist such modalities. Primary and secondary care is currently available, and the country refers to the exterior for tertiary care.

Health System Profile of Monserrrat

The Profile was prepared at the PAHO/WHO Caribbean Program Coordination Office in Barbados by a national professional on secondment from the local government with support from an office assistant. Draft documentation was forwarded to professionals and national policy decision makers in the Ministry of Education, Health and Community Services in Montserrat, and to persons in the Development Unit of the Statistical Department in Montserrat and to a few private individuals for their verification of information and comments. These were incorporated into the final document. Final review, edition, and translation are the responsibility of the Health Systems and Policies Unit, PAHO/WHO, Washington, DC.
